antiagingI will be turning the big 60 at the end of this month.  I feel fabulous, physically.  I do have some feelings of anxiety, however, when it comes to how strong I am keeping that gray matter between my ears.  It seems I forget things (ingredients in a recipe, birth years of my grandkids, names of people I just met a week ago, you name it) more than I used to.  Having a sharp mind as I tool through my 60s has become a priority for me.

Besides doing the Sudoku, some memory games, and puzzles, I have just started eating these 5 foods on a daily basis (there are experts who say that will give you the optimum boost) in order to naturally keep both my brain and mind in tip top shape.  Unfortunately, only one of these five have been a staple in the diet I have had to this point.  That’s the egg.

So, here they are … enjoy!

1) Blueberries – contain many naturally occurring antioxidants like Vitamin C and E  -  which shield against harmful processes tied to Alzheimers and premature aging of the brain.  According to this site, about 1 cup a day will help us.

2) Eggs – contain a significant source of Selenium, another important antioxidant.  It will help your brain stay years younger.

3) Mustard –  tumeric in mustard can help activate genes that control the cleanup of cellular waste in the area of the brain.  One teaspoon a day should do it.

4) Salmon – a great source of omega-3 fatty acids (includes the type that is thought to have the most antiaging effects in the brain).  If you can’t get ahold of the salmon keep in mind that a DHA supplement is another way to get that omega-3.

5) Kale – as many as 3 servings a day of this leafy green can help slow mental decline associated with aging.  It contains carotenoids and flavonoids.  There are many different kinds of kale.

Never hesitate to run any changes in diet past your regular physician here in the Oklahoma City area.
