cell phoneOn Oprah’s hour-long TV program yesterday she shared some excellent stories from folks who had lost loved ones because the driver in the other car was either texting or talking on their cell phone while driving.  That person lost focus, went into what is being called tunnel vision, as they concentrated more on their phone than on the road.

I bet there are very few Americans left that haven’t been guilty of this very thing.  I will openly admit that I have talked on my cell phone while driving and know in my heart I wasn’t concentrating like I should have been on what was going on around me.  I know I believed I was focusing beautifully while I was doing it.  As I listened to those family members talk about those who died it broke my heart and scared me (and I’m not talking just a little bit).  I am so thankful today that nothing happened to me, someone I love, or anyone in the public at large while I was being so foolish.

I went to Oprah’s Web site and took the No Phone Zone Pledge.  I was number 38,751!  Please go and read the material Oprah has posted there and take the pledge, too!

If you are not ready to take the pledge at least purchase a hands free device for your cell.  It isn’t enough but it’s a start.
