coxconventionBack on July 20th of this year, I posted about how disappointed I was that the Oklahoma City Blazers (with the Central Hockey League) had called it quits here in our fine city.  I included in that post that the city was already scouting out the dormant Edmonton Oilers and a possible move into the American Hockey League (which is just a step below the National Hockey League).

Well, as a 17- year loyal hockey fan of the Blazers, I am happy to report that just last week the city council  voted to enter into a lease agreement with a local group called Prodigal Hockey LLC for 40 regular season home games at the Cox Convention Center.

The president of Prodigal Hockey LLC, Bob Funk Jr., was quoted as saying, ”We’re close. We have some things to finalize and there are some approval processes that need to be gone through, but I think we’re really close to getting something done.”

With only a one season hiccup, it appears that Oklahoma City will be back in the business of hockey.  And that’s hockey with the top level of minor league play for the 2010-2011 season.

Hopefully, we’ll soon have to check out retail sportswear supply and equipment outlets in the Oklahoma City area to purchase a new jersey.
